Les organisations intergouvernementales et non gouvernementales sont reconnues en qualité d’observateurs devant être invités aux réunions de l’Assemblée et de tous les organes subsidiaires et entités subordonnées de l’OHI dans lesquels ils ont un intérêt et auxquels ils peuvent apporter une contribution. L’OHI maintient un nombre important de Protocoles d’accord et d’Accords de coopération avec les organisations concernées qui sont actives dans le domaine maritime.
Conseil de l'OHI
Pendant la période entre les Assemblées, le Conseil coordonne les activités de l’Organisation dans le cadre de la stratégie, du programme de travail et des dispositions financières en vigueur, prépare des propositions concernant la stratégie globale et le programme de travail, examine les états financiers et les estimations budgétaires, passe en revue les propositions qui lui sont soumises par les organes subsidiaires, propose la création d’organes subsidiaires, et revoit les projets d’accord entre l’OHI et d’autres organisations. Le Conseil se réunit une fois par an et soumet son rapport, ses observations, ses recommandations ainsi que les projets de décisions à l’Assemblée et aux Etats membres de l’OHI, aux fins d’approbation. Le Règlement général qui s’applique au Conseil et les Règles de procédure font partie de la Publication de l’OHI M-1 et peuvent être téléchargés à la section Publications, Catégorie « M » - Publications diverses.

S-57 Standards in Force
Introduction SOLAS regulations V/18 and V/19, requires that in order to achieve chart carriage requirements (in terms of SOLAS), the ECDIS equipment must conform to the relevant IMO performance standards. ECDIS units on board are required to comply with one of two performance standards (either IMO resolution A.817(19), as amended; or resolution MSC.232(82)), depending on the date of their installation.
