Introduction An S-100 based Product Specification defines a data product, and usually includes additional resources such as a machine readable Feature Catalogue and Portrayal Catalogue, a data Encoding Guide and at least one data encoding format. The latest published versions of IHO S-100 based Product Specifications can be downloaded directly from the Product Specification Register of the IHO Geospatial Information (GI) Registry; and links to the Product Specifications can be found on the IHO Standards and Specifications Download Page. A guidance document S-97 for developing Product Specifications can also be downloaded from the IHO Standards and Specifications Download Page. IRCC

The Inter-Regional Coordination Committee (Programme 3 of the IHO Work Programme) supervises the IHO Capactiy Building Strategy, promotes the wider use and collection of marine data and is responsible for the policy matters related to the Worldwide Electronic Navigational Chart Database (WEND), unless otherwise instructed by the Council. The IRCC coordinates and promotes cooperation with other international and regional organizations in areas of mutual interest, including but not limited to the operation of the World-Wide Navigational Warning Service, the development and maintenance of standards of competence for hydrographic surveyors and nautical cartographers, mapping the seafloor and governing undersea feature names.

The global hydrographic community expanded in January 2026 with the accession of Panama to the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), marking a significant milestone for international maritime cooperation. As one of the world’s major flag states and a strategic hub for global shipping, Panama’s membership is expected to strengthen hydrographic capacity and standards worldwide.
