HSH Prince Albert II opening remarks to the Assembly

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco officially opened the IHO Assembly which is taking place 16 to 18 November by videoconference.

The Assembly enables the organization’s 93 Member States to gather, establish priorities, and move forwards on important matters.

During these 3 days of sessions, the IHO Member State delegations will determine the organization’s action areas for the coming years. This will include agreeing on the updated IHO Strategic Plan and next steps for the implementation of the new Universal Hydrographic Data Model (S-100) and products based on it, in order to support a greater variety of digital data sources and customers. Beyond the traditional field of navigation, this framework can be used by any actor in the maritime field, such as the oil & gas industry, marine energy, scientists, etc. and this on a variety of platforms.

Participants will also discuss new initiatives. These include:
•    Establishment of a joint IHO-Singapore Innovation and Technology laboratory
•    Creation of a new IHO e-learning Centre in Korea
•    Project on empowering women in hydrography proposed by Canada
