What is progress with crowd-sourced depth data around the world?
The Crowdsourced Bathymetry Working Group met last week to discuss progress on an IHO-led citizen science initiative to collect seafloor depth data. Discussions focused on updating guidance and learning about progress from some of the first trial projects around the world.

Crowdsourced Bathymetry Working Group Discusses How to Increase Available Data
The IHO Crowdsourced Bathymetry Working Group (CSBWG) held its 10th meeting last week. 56 IHO Member State and stakeholder representatives gathered online to discuss how to increase crowdsourced data around the world and address data quality in the Great Barrier Reef, the Canadian Arctic coast, Japan and China as well the super yacht, commercial survey and private chart sectors.
Iridium SafetyCast Implementation Status
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announce the establishment of the Iridium SafetyCast Service, as a recognized mobile satellite service in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Effective 11 December 2020, Iridium declared the Iridium SafetyCast Service operational for broadcasting navigational warnings, meteorological warnings and forecasts, and Search and Rescue (SAR) related information.
