Programmes supported by the Republic of Korea CB activities to be financed by the contribution from ROK/KHOA are jointly decided upon by the Republic of Korea and the IHO through the Programme Management Board (PMB) annual meetings and are included in the IHO Capacity Building Work Programme (CBWP).
Course Programme
This training course is expected to be delivered primary at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) in Taunton, UK, by the UKHO and other institutions. The course content has been updated regularly to reflect new technologies. The current standard programme outline for training courses from 2026 onwards is expected to include the following:
IHO-Nippon Foundation GEOMAC Project
The IHO-Nippon Foundation Cooperation Project has been providing training opportunities for Category “B” nautical cartographers at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) for over 17 years. The project originally started as the Japan Capacity Building Project (JCBP) in 2009-2013 and the Cartography, Hydrography and Related Training (CHART) Project in 2014-2019, and has now become the Geospatial Marine Analysis and Cartography (GEOMAC) Project since 2020, thanks to the generous support from the Nippon Foundation of Japan. This capacity building project has connected the nautical cartography community, which currently has 112 alumni from 52 countries. The skills and knowledge of this community contribute to solving regional and global challenges beyond the SOLAS obligations.

Introduction SOLAS regulations V/18 and V/19, requires that in order to achieve chart carriage requirements (in terms of SOLAS), the ECDIS equipment must conform to the relevant IMO performance standards. ECDIS units on board are required to comply with one of two performance standards (either IMO resolution A.817(19), as amended; or resolution MSC.232(82)), depending on the date of their installation.
