The French Minister for the Sea visits the IHO
Mrs Annick Girardin, French Minister for the Sea, came to the offices of the IHO during an official visit to the Principality of Monaco on Friday 10 September. The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Mr Laurent Stéfanini, Ambassador of France to Monaco as well as other government representatives.
IHO S-100 Sea Trial Areas
In preparation for the operational implementation of S-100, several IHO Member States and Industry Stakeholders have undertaken sea trials and testbeds, labelled as "IHO S-100 Sea Trial Areas", to evaluate the effectiveness and operational readiness of the new standard. These trials allow mariners to experience S-100 products and services under real-world operating conditions, providing structured feedback that informs continued development and highlights achievements to date. The following presents a selection of results obtained thus far: Member States and Industry Stakeholders wishing to have their own S-100 testbed initiative or project recognized and labelled as an "IHO S-100 Sea Trial Area" are invited to submit their request here.
Seabed data to be discussed at the Ocean Decade Conference
The IHO and the OECD are co-hosting a satellite event during the UN Ocean Decade conference in Barcelona. Entitled "The Seabed Data We Need for the Ocean We Want," this session aims to look at the importance of advancing our understanding of the ocean and fostering increased investment in related activities.

Guidelines for the Standardisation of Undersea Feature Names Available in Portuguese
The IHO has released an English /Portuguese version of the guidelines for the Standardisation of Undersea Feature Names (IHO publication B-6). These guidelines explain the process to submit proposals for undersea features names and provide necessary information for them to be adopted by the GEBCO Sub-Committee on Undersea Feature Names (SCUFN). This English /Portuguese version is the result of a productive cooperation and input from Brazil (DHN) and Portugal (IHPT).
