Worldwide ENC Database working group discusses the future of coverage

The Worldwide ENC Database working group (WEND) gathered last week to discuss the future of global ENC coverage, decisions which are key to support the safety of navigation, search and rescue activities, and mitigate the impacts of storms, marine pollution etc. The goal was to pave the way and be ready for when the new S-100 based digital products are implemented, and to try and coordinate initiatives.

New editor for the International Hydrographic Review

The International Hydrographic Review, the scientific journal published by the IHO, has a new editor. Dr Patrick Westfeld began his new functions on 5 January 2022. He brings with him solid technical knowledge, coupled with good experience with academia and scientific publishing.

IHO Member States gather for Council meeting

IHO Member States gathered this week as part of the 5th meeting of the Council. Presided by Geneviève Béchard of Canada, participants were able to take stock on progress and discuss next steps on several key actions such as the roadmap for S-100 implementation and the future conversion from S-57 to S-101 ENCs.

Empowering Women in Hydrography

Despite more and more women working in hydrography, leadership positions are still often occupied by men. In the IHO bodies, only 13% are chaired by women. With the goal of raising awareness about the different jobs available to women in hydrography, and of facilitating them to reach leadership positions, the IHO has launched a new project to “Empower women in Hydrography”.
