INTERNATIONAL BOARD ON STANDARDS OF COMPETENCE (IBSC) 2024 INTERNSHIPS

The UK Improving Gender Balance Fund and the EWH project supported the IBSC in hosting four internships in the revision of the Standards of Competence for Category "A" and "B" of Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers (S-5A, S-5B, S-8A, and S-8B).

The selected interns—Silvia Chomik from Argentina, Valeria Lopez-Torres from Peru, Emily Tidey from New Zealand, and Julia Wallace from the United States—had the opportunity to participate in the inter-sessional meeting of the International Federation of Surveyors/International Hydrographic Organization (IHO)/International Cartographic Association IBSC held in Athens, Greece.

During the meeting, the interns conducted a thorough analysis of a questionnaire on the Standards, distributed to IBSC stakeholders earlier in the year, and presented their findings to the IBSC Board.

Outside of the busy meeting sessions, the interns had the chance to explore Athens, immersing themselves in the city's rich history, iconic landmarks, and renowned Greek hospitality and cuisine.
